Lecture on Youth Unemployment and Labor Market Policies Held at FBA

On Monday, December 23, 2024, Ms. Irma Bejdić, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Innsbruck, delivered a lecture titled "Youth Unemployment and Labor Market Policies" as part of the Labor Economics course. The event was organized by the IUS Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA), under the coordination of Dr. Azra Bičo and Dr. Šejma Aydin.

The lecture provided an in-depth analysis of youth unemployment, exploring its causes, consequences, and the policies designed to address it. Ms. Bejdić discussed global and regional trends, emphasizing the scarring effects of unemployment on young individuals and its broader impact on economic growth and social stability.

Key topics included active labor market policies (ALMPs) such as job clubs, skills training, and start-up grants, with examples from international and local initiatives. Ms. Bejdić highlighted the success of the Youth Employment Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which supported over 3,000 young people in finding employment within six months.

The lecture also engaged students with tasks to design their own labor market policies, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving. The session concluded with a discussion on balancing skills training and job creation to effectively combat youth unemployment.

This event was part of an ongoing effort to integrate real-world issues into the curriculum, providing students with valuable insights and practical approaches to addressing complex economic challenges.
