PhD Studies
The 3rd cycle of study (doctoral study) is concluded with the completion and successful defense of the doctoral dissertation, after which a candidate acquires scientific title of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the relevant area.
During the PhD studies, students are expected to complete two required courses on methods and six electives. After this, they are expected to take the Doctoral Qualification Exam, and upon successful completion, they attain the status of PhD candidates. Only as PhD candidates can they register their dissertations and submit the progress reports. The detailed guide to the steps mentioned above is outlined in the Study Rules for the Third Study Cycle at IUS.
After completing the third study cycle, a student acquires the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Management.
The program curriculum is available here.
Admission Requirements for the PhD program
In addition to the general requirements prescribed by the law, the right to apply for enrolment in the third study cycle (doctoral studies) is granted to all students who have completed their Master studies according to the Bologna study model (i.e., candidates who have accomplished 300 ECTS), as well as all those who have completed post-graduate studies according to an earlier study model and gained the title of Master of Science (pre-Bologna and Bologna Master studies curriculum), or candidates who have acquired education outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina and who, after the validation and equivalence procedure, are found to have completed adequate education level for the continuation of their studies.
Ranking of candidates for enrolment to the third cycle can be based on the following criteria:
- The relevance of the previous education degree. Previous education in business and business-related fields is desirable but not mandatory. Since management is a multidisciplinary study, we also welcome applicants from different educational backgrounds,
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) – a minimum of 3.3/4 or 9/10,
- A research proposal that should convince the committee that the applicant has the potential to deal with the requirements of PhD studies as well as to see whether they are suitable for the program capacities and the candidate's intended research area,
- Performance at the interview or test (optional), and
- Other criteria that are determined in the Public Call.
Candidates who are citizens of foreign countries can submit preliminary application for admission, before the official call is published by the University, so that they can obtain necessary residency permits and satisfy language requirements prior to the start of lectures at the University.
